IMPROVING THE LIVES OF HORSES AND HUMANS IN OUR COMMUNITY THROUGH EDUCATION AND ASSISTANCE

Mustangs To The Rescue

What We Do

What Drives Us

To help horses in need by providing positive options for both horses and their owners.

To help our local community by providing horse owners and potential horse owners with assistance, educational opportunities and resources to ensure safe and secure homes for our equine partners.

To assist local, state and federal agencies in managing horses and horse populations; wild or otherwise.

To elevate the public’s view of wild horses by placing them in roles of service such as Search and Rescue, Packing Services and Mounted Patrols.

Equine Rescue Program

Rescuing horses is one of the most challenging yet rewarding programs we offer to our community.

Our Equine Rescue Program was established to help prevent abuse, neglect and abandonment of at-risk horses.  We work with community members, as well as local, state, and national authorities to discover at-risk horses and encourage people to rehome horses they can no longer care for properly.

Because of the commitment we make to each horse in our care, we keep the number of horses at Mustangs To The Rescue at a level we can safely manage. When we have the space and finances available to take in additional horses, Mustangs To The Rescue will review the needs of the horses on our waiting list. Once rescued, the horse(s) are transported to Mustangs To The Rescue or a pre-approved foster home. When we are not able to receive an animal, we still work hard to provide assistance in other ways.

Horses accepted into our Equine Rescue Program are horses that we feel, with proper training and rehabilitation, we will be able to rehome.  We simply do not have the capacity to provide long -term sanctuary for unwanted horses.

Mustangs To The Rescue is not funded by any local, or state government entity. Paying for hay, feed, medical, farrier, dental, and transportation expenses is a constant struggle and we rely on the financial support of individuals and businesses.

Our experienced volunteers consult with licensed healthcare professionals, farriers and alternative therapy practitioners to determine the proper care for all horses. Horses in our care receive proper nutrition, physical and behavioral therapies and lots of love. Once rescued, experienced horsemen and women with strong equestrian skills work with horses in our rehabilitation and retraining programs.

Adoption Program

Prospective adopters are screened for compatibility with the equine they are interested in to assure that the adoption will be in the best interest of both the horse and the adopter. The application process requires extensive question and answer sessions as well as personal reference checks and an inspection of the location that the horse will call its new home. Once adopted, Mustangs To The Rescue follows up with the new owners and references to check the status of the horse and ensure that the adoption is working out for both the horse and adopter. Adopters are required to provide regular updates. Horse adoption fees are $500 regardless of the perceived value of the animal.

Rehabilitation & Retraining

We rehabilitate and retrain equines in order to facilitate their adoption into new homes. Our comprehensive program includes housing the horses, providing proper nutrition, vet, dental and farrier care, while we determine the horse’s best potential and suitability to a new home.

Some horses might take longer to regain proper strength and weight before they can be rehabilitated for adoption. Some horses once again become riding horses, while others will simply become companion animals or personal pets. Experienced horsemen and women with strong equestrian skills work with the horses on skills needed to ensure their adoptability.

Educational Outreach

Mustangs To The Rescue helps our local community by providing horse owners and potential horse owners with assistance, educational opportunities, and resources to ensure safe and secure homes for our equine partners.

We believe that by providing educational opportunities that promote public education and awareness, develop horsemanship skills and responsible horse ownership, we can make a greater impact on the health and welfare of the horses in our community.

Our educational opportunities include on-site training, clinics, and seminars such as Basic Horsemanship, Barn and Equine Safety, Equine Body Language, Equine Sign Language, Equine Air Scenting, Technical Large Animal Emergency Rescue, Pasture Management, Trail Course Practice, and more!
