Letter of Recommendation

We received this Letter of Recommendation from Dennis Crowell, MA, LPC

January, 2014

To Whom It May Concern:

This is a letter regarding our relationship with Mustangs to the Rescue, a horse rescue and rehabilitation program that we have recently begun working with.

I am the Program Director of a an adult Residential Drug and Alcohol treatment program in Central Oregon, called Best Care Treatment Services. We work with severe addicts and alcoholics in a residential treatment setting for an average of 30-45 days. During my 3 years as program Director, I began to incorporate the treatment modalities of community service and equine therapy into our program. The benefits have been measurable and well received, by both staff and clients.

I approached Kate Beardsley, the Executive Director of Mustangs to the Rescue in mid- November of 2013. I was interested in expanding our program, and working with a person who has many years of training in working with horses and humans. Kate and I had a very good first meeting. We agreed to try an every other week scenario in which Best Care’s clients came out to the ranch for 3 hours and interacted with horses, while also helping out with chores and other work projects.

This interaction with the staff and horses at Mustangs to the Rescue has been excellent. Kate has been wonderful, and the other staff have all been supportive. The work with the horses has been exactly what we are looking for with our clients. The dynamic between horses and humans is very therapeutic, and has been demonstrated to be very effective in working with addicts and alcoholics in early stages of recovery.

While we have been involved in working with rescue horses for 3 years, I must emphasize that there is a qualitative difference in the level of caring and positive therapeutic experience at Mustangs. The professionalism and genuine concern of Kate, Laurie and the others makes for a powerful experience.

We at Best Care are strongly supportive of this wonderful program, and hope we can continue to support their work in any way we can.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
